DSTM

It seems farcical that we should cheer when a lingerie label designs with the female body in mind, but DSTM stands alone as a directional brand that’s demanding more, appraising the form with unencumbered curiosity. Hatched from the subconscious, DSTM’s brazen bodywear cuts cloth with a new geometry, inspired by the contors of the body, to create garments that structure and support without the use of underwire. As such, any piece can be resourced as underwear, outerwear, for lounge or swim. But all that is just a blessed bonus when, aesthetically speaking, collections are as progressive as they come.

FW18 continues to define desire on a woman’s terms, the dominant use of black blocking out and baring the skin in ways we’ve scarcely seen. Halter bodysuits are punched with diamond cut outs at the bust, while cage-like counterparts sport belted racerbacks and deep V-cut briefs. Cobalt compression pieces wrap the figure like thwarted sportswear, with cropped rasher tops, cycle shorts and peekaboo back unitards to tempt you from the right track. And on the topic of performance, each ecological fabric feels soft to the touch, is ultra-durable, and draws moisture away from the skin, each piece meticulously devised in the Berlin studio, and ethically produced by family-run ateliers in Sofia. They say desires are nourished by delays; finally, beautiful bodywear that satisfies mind, body and spirit.
